Blog Featuring the Seattle Central Library

While searching for information and pictures of the Seattle Central Library, I came across stephmodo, a blog by a designer who moved to Seattle in 2011. In her blog post from 2012, one year after she moved to Seattle, she writes about her favorite locations and stores in Seattle that she's discovered in the city, and the first place she mentions is the Central Library! She writes that "the 11-story structure is definitely one of Seattle's most spectacular buildings" and that "she cannot think of a cooler library anywhere else."

From the detailed and crisp pictures attached to the blog post, I learned that the font used on signs in the library is a modern, friendly sans serif, all lower case, which I think melds wonderfully into the modern and open design of the library. Also, I noticed that the shelves and guardrails are made of mesh steel, which thematically reflects the steel and glass mesh of the exterior. Overall, the interior shots made me realize how well thought out the design of the library was: from the largest features like the exterior wall to the design of the guardrails, everything works together to create a unified feeling of openness and order. Finally, I would definitely agree with the author that this is the coolest library I have ever seen, and possibly one of the coolest libraries in the world!
