The Seattle Central Library is located in the heart of downtown Seattle, surrounded by Seattle's tallest skyscrapers and just five blocks away from the coast. Pike Place Market is just ten minutes' walk away, and the Seattle Aquarium is close by too! The location is perfect for families with children, because there are so many things to do around the library, and places to eat! Although the library may look quite small on this map, it is really quite a sight in person, and provides spectacular views of downtown Seattle through its walls.
One aspect of the location that the map projection does not capture is the steep slope of the land where the library is built. Downtown Seattle is sharply sloped downwards towards the shoreline, which can pose a challenge for architectural design. The success of the Seattle Central Library's floating platforms design is a testament to the skill of principal architects Koolhaas and Prince-Ramus, as well as the structural engineers who worked on the building's stability.
